In Its First Year, Portland State's Online MBA+ Captures Attention of U.S. News & World Report
Portland State University's Online MBA+ program recently received national attention when U.S. News and World Report ranked it among the nation's best distance-MBA programs.
The October 15, 2001 edition of the magazine surveyed over 2,000 schools to determine the top 130 on-line graduate programs in several disciplines, including business. Portland State's Online MBA+ was ranked among the top 25 on-line graduate business programs, and was in the company of such schools as Arizona State University, University of Florida, Rensselaer and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
Scott Dawson, dean of Portland State's School of Business said of the accomplishment, "This is a huge step forward for Portland State's business program, and it a great example of what we can achieve together by taking a few risks."
Portland State University's School of Business Administration and School of Extended Studies launched the Online MBA+ program, a unique Master of Business Administration degree combining one of the nation's top MBA programs with cutting-edge educational and distance learning capabilities, this past fall. The new program builds on ten years of experience in delivering an MBA program via distance learning. Formerly the Statewide MBA program, the Online MBA+ is geared toward busy professionals inside and outside the Portland area. The program offers the same courses and faculty as the School of Business Administration's campus-based program, but combines the power and versatility of distance learning technologies that include the World Wide Web with the effectiveness of face-to-face learning.
The three-year program includes three campus-based residencies per year, each lasting from Friday through Saturday afternoon, enhancing the online portions of the classes. During the intensive residencies, students have the opportunity to meet the course instructor and other students face-to-face, and engage in live lectures, discussions and group activities.
